Spinal Injury/Paralysis

Thanks For Your Support!

Gary Clever's Bio

On August 10, 2014, my family was involved in a car accident on Downsville Pike/ Sterling Road in Hagerstown, MD. The drunk driver was going over the speed limit, ran a stop sign, and t-boned my dad’s side of the car.

Shortly after the accident, the paramedics and firemen had to cut my father out of the car. He told them that he was not able to feel anything from the chest down. They ordered for him to be flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit.

clever-gary-pg-picAfter arriving at the hospital, the doctors told us he had a spinal injury consisting of 4 fractures to the spinal cord. That night he had to undergo over 11 hours of surgery. The surgeons told us that he has a 35% chance of ever walking again.

Ever since that day, he has been on a ventilator and still paralyzed from the chest down. The doctors say that he will need to go to a 6 month live- in rehabilitation after he is able to leave the Shock Trauma Unit. With the driver having minimal insurance, the months of rehab will not be covered. It is going to be a long road ahead, but we believe he will be able to pull through…

I just want to thank everyone who is going to participate in the PPF Bowling Fundraiser to help with my dad’s expenses. I also would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. You truly have made a difference.
