Dale Hooper, Lost his home to a flood in
Emmittsburg
Dale Hooper has been entertaining people
with his dazzling guitar licks and
energetic stage presence for over forty
years. He has been performing primarily
in the Western Maryland area, but also
in neighboring states, which does not
usually bring fame and wealth, in spite
of what appears in the media. Most
recently, Dale has been working a day
job and playing part time to pay the
bills and live close to his children.
However, on April 16, 2011, Northern
Frederick County, Maryland and
South-Central Pennsylvania were hit by
massive thunderstorms. Just outside of
Fairfield, Pa. a stream that is usually
several inches deep rose quickly by
several feet. Dale Hooper’s property
borders that stream. A large pine at the
upstream side of his property was
quickly undercut and fell across the
stream, immediately trapping the debris
and causing the stream to cut a new
channel. Unfortunately, that new channel
was directly at Dale’s house. The house
is effectively destroyed.
Dale and his son Collin, who was with
him at the time, were rescued from the
house by Frederick County swift water
rescue teams, but only after the first
boat sent to extract them was capsized
by the flood. Fortunately, no one was
injured.
This modest house was all of Dale’s
savings and retirement as well as his
home. He has temporary housing thanks to
the generosity of neighbors and his
church family. A few of Dale’s
possessions were spared, a TV that was
on the wall, a laptop and, most
importantly, his guitars.
The flood insurance through FEMA will
only cover the equity loan on the house,
which was otherwise paid. It will not
rebuild/replace it or his lost property.
We
want to help Dale get back on his feet,
giving him help in rebuilding, if that
is even possible on this property or
helping him purchase another home in the
area so he can remain close to his
children.
We are in the process of organizing a
number of events to raise funds to help
Dale and will keep you posted on this
site. Donations may be sent to the
“Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc.” and mention
“Dale Hooper” in the memo section of the
check. Mail donations to 11102
Eagletrace Drive, New Market, MD 21774.
