Corey is a 2-1/2
year old little boy, full of life,
energy and very playful. He loves
baseball and Spiderman and his older
brothers, Kenny and Jimmy.
On June 27, 2008,
Corey had a headache accompanied by
vomiting. His parents (Kenny and
Angela) took him to
Washington County Hospital where the
doctors did a CT scan of Corey’s
brain. He was diagnosed initially
with a brain tumor. The doctors then
referred the family to Children’s
National Medical Center in
Washington, D.C.
There, on June 28,
2008, those physicians gave Corey an
MRI, both with and without contrast
of his brain and spine. On Sunday,
his parents were given the news that
the results were “not good.” The
tumors were all over Corey’s spine
“as if they’d been painted on”, plus
the tumor on his brain was blocking
the spinal fluid. Because of that
blockage, on June 29, 2008, the
doctors put a shunt on the right
side of Corey’s brain to release the
fluid. They also performed a biopsy
on his spine. On July 8, 2008, the
doctors told Corey’s parents that
the tumors were cancerous and were
much more aggressive than they
originally thought. The technical
term was, “Primitive Neuroectodermal
Tumor (PNET).” Chemotherapy was
recommended.
Corey’s
chemotherapy began July 14, 2008 and
will last 6 weeks: 1 week chemo,
then 2 weeks home; and then another
week of chemo, with 2 weeks home,
until November 2008. This little guy
has a long road ahead of him, but
his doctors are great. We all hope
and pray that the chemo will kill
these tumors and let Corey return to
playing with his brothers and
family.
Thank you for all
your thoughts and prayers at this
time. Knowing that others are
praying and helping is a comfort to
the family.
