Cheryl Kibler was
diagnosed with a
rare
form of ovarian cancer
(primary
peritoneal cancer) in January, 2010. She had surgery
Jan 19, 2010. Because the tumor was
wrapped around the intestines and colon
both had to be partially removed.
Surgeons were going by sight
microscopically
so it was impossible to know if
cancerous cells remained. Cheryl has
now been undergoing aggressive
chemotherapy for nearly a year and a
half and has been an amazing trouper.
This very bumpy ride has included
several hospital stays for a variety of
infections that nearly cost her life at
one point.
She lost her hair after
just the second round of chemo which is
tough to deal with, but she’s beautiful
with or without it. Cheryl’s most
recent PET scan was clean — indicating
she is responding positively to the
chemo treatments, but that means she
must continue them. A number of
studies have shown that without ongoing
chemo the tumor will grow back. This is
really difficult for Cheryl as one of
the side effects of the treatment is
terrific bone pain that makes walking
difficult at times. Unfortunately she
also developed a painful hernia that
cannot be operated on while she is still
undergoing chemo. It’s a big future
concern; we have to keep her spirits up.
Cheryl is trying her
very best to be as positive as she can.
She’s looking forward to spending real
quality time with her family this
summer. Her granddaughter, family and
friends are her top priority these days
and she can’t wait to go to the beach
for special time with her 5-hear old
granddaughter. Cheryl is all about
putting the bad things behind her and
moving forward. No one puts their best
foot forward like she does and we’re so
proud of her! She shows her strengths
everyday!
Thank you to all her
family, friends and supporters at this
time. You can find updates on Cheryl at
