Meet Angel Cregger, a young wife and
Mother from Walkersville, MD. Angel
survived a massive heart attack when she
was 34 years old. The heart attack did
major damage to her heart and she had to
be listed for a heart transplant in June
of 2007. When she was originally listed
the doctors said she would have a 2 year
wait for a transplant but she is still
waiting today, 4 years and 6 months
later. Several months after being listed
for transplant Angel’s heart became
sicker and her doctors recommended she
get a then experimental LVAD, left
ventricle assist device. The device is a
heart pump that dose the work Angel’s
sick heart can’t do. Angel must be
hooked to batteries at all times. She
carries the 10 pound external device and
batteries in a back pack so she can move
around freely. She has had many side
effects from this device and the blood
thinners it requires. Though the device
makes her look “healthy” it is
deceiving. She struggles daily with the
side effects, pain, the weight of the
device, medications and keeping her
device working properly. She has had
many life threading side effects also
causing long hospital stays in
Baltimore.
The medical costs have really begun to
hurt the family. Her husband works in
the construction industry and when the
economy changed it affected his work. He
lost all of his benefits and took a cut
in pay, just to keep a job and
insurance. Their insurance doesn’t cover
all of Angel’s medical expenses so
that’s another burden.
Please consider supporting Angel and her
family while they work to keep their
home and get her through this medical
issue.
