Barbara
Rose, a long-time member of our
community is battling stage IV lung
cancer.
Born at Montgomery General Hospital in
Olney Maryland, Barb spent her early
years in nearby Travilah Maryland. In
1967 she moved, with her family, to
Frederick where she has since enjoyed a
quiet, comfortable life. Soon after
graduating from Governor Thomas Johnson
High School, she found a calling in the
hospitality industry, most notably, a 20
year stint at Jennifers' Restaurant
followed by the past 4 years at La Paz.
Barbara has loved every minute spent
serving the folks in our downtown
community while watching it grow into a
thriving and vital city center.
In January 2011, Barbara awoke to
“double-vision” as the first symptom of
what would turn out to be an advanced
lung cancer that had metastasized to her
brain, breasts and bone. An
ever-positive and wonderfully strong
woman, Barbara, with the support of her
husband Richard, her family, and the
many friends and acquaintances she's met
along the way, intends to beat this
disease.
She is currently receiving radiation
treatments for the brain tumors, and
will soon undergo chemo-therapy. She has
the strength, she has the will, but
needs our help to overcome new and
pressing financial difficulties. Our
help will allow Barb to concentrate on
becoming whole again, so she may once
more dote on her nieces Emily and
Morgan, to carry-on spoiling her devoted
Golden Retriever Molly, and to resume
her quiet, comfortable life.
