Williams said she first heard of the
organization at her church, Thurmont Church of
the Brethren, from Dawn Moser who brought the
FHFH Flyer. “I was impressed and contacted and
meet with Josh & Rich Wilson the founder. After
hearing his story about how he received this
calling by meeting a woman along side a dark
Virginian Road, helping her load a road-kill
deer into her car so she could feed her family,
I knew the PPF was also to answer a calling and
be apart of his organization. Being from the
Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee I could
identify with this woman. If we had deer meat
we were in Hillbilly Heaven. It was a luxury!
Some people tell me that the Frederick County
people do not have a palate for deer meat. I
say these are opinions of people who can afford
to buy what they desire. If you are needy and
hungry you will love deer meat. We are offering
protein and a meat that is leaner which makes it
healthier for you.
We are asking hunters to give us their best. It
cost us the same to dress out a small deer as it
does a large one. Processing will be done by
Snuffs Meat in Thurmont, Dorsey’s Meat in
Woodsboro and Pry’s Deer Processing Knoxsville.
Please go to
www.FHFH.org to fully understand their
out reach ministry. To date they have processed
over 1,600 tons-nearly 13 million servings of
venison and other big game for soup kitchens and
food pantries across America.
In Frederick County the meat is shared thought
the Frederick Soup Kitchen who serves over
25,000 meals annually, Frederick Foodbank which
is operated as a partnership between the FCAA
and the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human
Needs. Approximately 450 households use the
Foodbank each month, Williams said.
Our goal is to have 400 deer which would provide
80,000 servings. To reach that goal we will
need help from the community. One generous
anonymous donor has stepped up to the plate
already. We also have money allocated from the
BB&T Governor Ehrlich (who is a big supporter of
this program) Charity Golf Outing at Holly Hills
C.C. this summer but we will need more to
achieve this goal. I’m sure the hunters will be
generous. If you do not hunt you could help
with the cost of packaging. Scriptures tell us
we are to feed our hungry. If you have been
blessed you may want to pass that blessing on to
others.”
